Why do older Ralston gutters overflow so fast?
A mature Ralston block is shaded by full-grown silver maple, cottonwood, and mixed hardwoods that have had sixty years or more to reach over the roof. Big old silver maples drop enormous quantities of seed helicopters in spring, cottonwoods add summer fluff, and the fall leaf drop off trees this size is heavy and lands right on the eave. On the smaller lots and older, sometimes narrower gutters common here, that debris load overflows an open gutter quickly. A solid hood sheds it so the aging gutter underneath can keep draining.
