Gutter Cleaning in Omaha: What It Costs, How Often, and How to Stop for Good
Lifetime No Clog Guarantee. If your LeaFree gutters ever clog, we clear them free.
Made in Omaha
Most Omaha gutters need cleaning at least twice a year, once after the spring seeds and once after the fall leaves, and more often under big trees. A hired cleaning in Omaha averages about $100 to $250 a visit, more for a taller house (HomeGuide, Omaha). You can clean a one story house yourself from a footed ladder. If you are cleaning more than twice a year, a gutter guard can end the job.

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Omaha?
About $100 to $250 a visit for a typical Omaha house, and more for a taller or harder one.
HomeGuide's Omaha cost guide puts the average at $100 to $250, with one story homes at $70 to $200, two story homes at $100 to $275 and three story homes at $130 to $400. Angi's national figures run a little higher: an average of $168, with most people paying between $119 and $234, and $145 to $250 for one story, $180 to $360 for two stories and $210 to $450 for three. Both are averages across many jobs, so read them as the range to expect, not the price of your house.
Height and length move the price most. A second or third story takes longer and needs more care on the ladder, and more feet of gutter take more time: most homes have 150 to 200 feet of it, according to HomeGuide. A steep roof, gutters packed solid with wet leaves, downspouts that have to be cleared and guards that have to come off and go back on all add to the bill.
What a fair quote includes
- Scooping every run by hand, not only the easy stretches.
- Bagging the debris and hauling it away, rather than dropping it in your beds.
- Flushing each gutter with water to prove it drains.
- Clearing every downspout and its elbows. A cleaning that skips the downspouts leaves the gutter clear and still overflowing.
- A look at the hangers and the pitch while someone is up there.
The yearly math
Cleaning is a cost that comes back every year, so price it by the year, not the visit. Take the visits your trees need each year, times the price you are quoted per visit, times the years you plan to stay: two visits a year for ten years is twenty visits. Our comparison of LeaFree and cleaning twice a year runs the same math both ways.
How often do gutters need cleaning in Omaha?
At least twice a year, in late spring and late fall, and more often under big trees.
- Late spring, after the maple helicopters and the cottonwood fluff.
- Late fall, after the last leaves are down.
- More often under big oaks, maples, cottonwoods or pines, or where a gutter sits under a roof valley.
- After a big storm, if you saw water pouring over the edge.
Omaha's trees keep a calendar: silver maple helicopters in spring, cottonwood fluff in June, then oak tassels, hackberry leaves and pine needles every fall. HomeGuide suggests cleaning 2 to 3 times a year, and a house under several of those trees can need more. Cottonwood fluff is the hardest of them on gutters and guards alike; do gutter guards work with cottonwood? covers it.
Winter counts too. A gutter packed with wet leaves going into a freeze holds water that turns to ice in the trough. A gutter guard keeps the trough clear, but no guard stops ice dams, which start on the roof above the gutter; gutter guards and Omaha ice dams explains why.

Should you clean your own gutters?
On a one story house, yes, with care; on a second story, hire it out or cover the gutters.
When doing it yourself is reasonable
A one story gutter from a stable ladder on firm, level ground is a reasonable weekend job. Have somebody foot the ladder, move the ladder along rather than leaning out to reach, and wear gloves, because gutter debris hides sharp screws and broken hangers. Scoop into a bucket or a bag, then flush each run with a hose and watch the downspout to be sure it drains.
The ladder risk
Ladders hurt a lot of people. A study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine estimated that more than 2.1 million people were treated in U.S. emergency departments for ladder injuries from 1990 through 2005, an average of more than 136,000 a year. Where the place was recorded, 97 percent happened away from work, at places such as homes and farms.
Why a second story changes the answer
A second story gutter means working well off the ground, reaching sideways with a bucket in one hand, often over a driveway or a patio. That is where a slip turns serious. If your gutters are that high, hire a crew that is insured for work at height, or cover the gutters so the job stops coming back.
How do you pick a gutter cleaning service in Omaha?
No official ranking of gutter cleaners in Omaha exists, so judge each one on the same few checks.
The "best of" lists in a search are built by directories, review sites and lead services, each with its own method. Use them to find names, then ask every company the same questions:
- Are you insured for work at height? Ask to see the certificate.
- Is the price in writing, and does it include flushing the gutters and clearing every downspout?
- Where does the debris go: bagged and hauled away, or left in the beds?
- What do your reviews say on more than one site, and how do you answer the bad ones?
- How often do you suggest coming back for the trees over my roof?
Write the answers side by side. The cheapest visit is not the best deal if it skips the downspouts, or if your trees bring it back three times a year.
What are your options besides cleaning twice a year?
A gutter guard keeps the debris out in the first place, and there are five common kinds.
| Kind | How it works | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Screens | A perforated sheet over or in the gutter. Water drops through the holes. | Needles, maple seeds and grit smaller than a hole fall through. Leaves can mat over the top, and screens that drop in or clip on can shift in wind or ice. |
| Micro mesh | A fine mesh over the gutter. Water filters through very small openings. | Cottonwood fluff, pollen and shingle grit can lodge in the mesh and, over seasons, blind it, so it may need brushing or washing. |
| Foam inserts | A foam block inside the gutter. Water soaks through the foam. | Debris sits on top, the foam holds moisture and seeds, and it breaks down in the sun. |
| Solid hood (reverse curve) | A solid top with a rounded front edge. Rain follows the curve in, and leaves slide off. | No openings on top to clog. Sheltered spots still want a glance each season and an occasional rinse. |
| One piece gutter with hood | New seamless gutters with a hood, formed together on site. | Choosing it means new gutters as well as the cover. |
No gutter cover is maintenance free, ours included. Gutter covers in Omaha, sorted by how they work goes deeper on each kind, screens, micro mesh and foam each have a page setting them beside LeaFree, and the questions to ask a gutter guard company work on any of them.

When does a gutter guard make more sense than cleaning?
When you clean more than twice a year, when the gutters are two stories up, or when they overflow between cleanings.
Each of those means cleaning is not keeping up, or costs more each year in money and risk than it should. A guard keeps the leaves and seeds out of the gutter, so the cleaning stops being a line on the calendar. A house with almost no trees is a weaker case: if one cleaning a year keeps your gutters clear, a guard has less to save you.

HomeGuide's Omaha guide puts it at about $100 to $250 a visit on average, from $70 for a small one story house to $400 for a large three story one. Height, feet of gutter, roof pitch, how packed the gutters are and whether the downspouts are included all move the price.
How often should gutters be cleaned in Omaha?
At least twice a year, in late spring and late fall. Under big oaks, maples, cottonwoods or pines, plan on more.
